Extremist Religious Views in Uganda

In addition to religiously fueled government raids on events promoting and supporting the LGBT community, Ugandan churches are also resisting the LGBT community and the rights they deserve.

Between 2003 and 2009, Ugandan policies on homosexuality and same-sex relationships were influenced by religion and religious activists, shaping the Ugandan attitude on sexuality.

The Ugandan church refuses any form of acceptance of homosexuality in any branch of the church. This resistance keeps the LGBT community from getting the rights and acceptance they deserve, and keeps Ugandans ignorant to the community as well.

Following an update in discriminatory legislation, religious interference remained a common issue in Uganda with people like Dr. Martin Ssempa, a Ugandan pastor and chairman of the national task force against homosexuality. He discusses the issues with being gay and participating in homosexual acts and behavior, believing  that being gay is being sick.
